SIGNUS collected 200,000 tons of end-of-life tires in 2021

SIGNUS – a Spanish end-of-life tire management authority – managed 200,286 tons of end-of-life tires in 2021, which had previously been gathered in the 25,820 generation points spread around Spain. In comparison to those managed in 2020, the tonnage managed in 2021 represent a 17.3 percent rise.

According to the company, SIGNUS meets the obligations placed on all of its associated producers by Real Decreto 1619/2005, such as managing at least the same number of tires that they put on the national replacement market, to which must be added reusable tires that are re-marketed in the market.

Tires larger than 1,400 mm in diameter were included in the extended producer responsibility for the first time in 2021, resulting in an increase in the number of tires placed on the market as well as the number of end-of-life tires managed. The proper treatment of this large quantity of end-of-life tires has resulted in the transformation of many automobiles’ waste into useful and valuable resources for society. All of this is done in accordance with the principles of the Circular Economy and the utilization of raw resources in a sustainable manner.
