Section of the Great Wall of China collapses under heavy rains

Often considered one of the most durable wonders of the ancient world, part of the Great Wall of China is now at risk.

Heavy rains in Hebei province outside of Beijing caused 36 meters of the Wall to collapse. The area has been cleared and experts are now drafting proposals to remair the damaged section, according to Xinhua, the state news agency. The section of the wall in question was built during the Ming Dynasty and is somewhere between 400 to 700-years-old.

The Great Wall was not the only part of China affected. Recent rainfall, including more than 7-inches in one day, has displaced more than 30,000 people in Beijing.
