The numbers for tires from the replacement market for the first quarter of 2022 have been released by RecyBEM.

RecyBEM takes a look back at a quarter in which the quantity of recyclables collected increased. In the first quarter of 2022, the Netherlands gathered 2.4 million end-of-life car tires from the replacement market.

According to RecyBEM data, certified collections in the Netherlands almost matched the record set in the first quarter of 2020: in 2018, 2019, and 2021, around 2.2 million used tires were collected in the first quarter, but in 2020, as in the previous quarter, around 2.4 million discarded tires were collected from the 10,000 garages, tire companies, and municipalities that participate in the RecyBEM system.

All end-of-life tires were recovered from the replacement market by RecyBEM collectors, either directly or indirectly via suppliers from all garages and tire companies. Part of the reason for the spike in 2020 was a massive clearance at corporations during the Covid-19 crisis. The current improvement could be attributed to increased demand for tires as a result of economic expansion.
