Vancouver, Canada (Envirocycle Magazine) - Whistler 2010
Klean Industries has finalized its in-house design and engineering plan for an integrated waste management solution and a Whistler, British Columbia, Canada community housing project. Although final designs and property selection have yet to be decided, the multi-million dollar integrated project would be the first of its kind in the world. This community housing development is being designed with people and sustainability in mind. Final decisions on technology partnerships will be finalized at the end of Dec 2007.
In an interview with President and CEO Mr. Klinkhamer, he stated, “Our vision is to build a housing development that is heated, has hot water, a heated pool and/or community center, and its electricity produced by an integrated resource recovery facility”. “Our goal is to build a fully sustainable, environmentally sound system that powers people’s lives and homes by recycling and remaking natural resources from ordinary curbside waste.” “The money earned from the sale of the products produced from the integrated facility will go back into the community and completely close the loop on Whistler’s waste.
Mr. Klinkhamer said the planned facility could create over 100 new jobs in Whistler and offset hundreds of thousands of tonnes of GHG emissions. This facility will continue operations long after the 2010 Winter Olympics have come and gone.
Currently, Klean Industries has many Eco-Industrial parks under development around the globe. “This is one of our many company goals for the near future and beyond. However, there is only a catch: during the Olympics, if you want to use, visit, or view the facility, everyone must bring something that needs recycling. We want to show the world what can be done when you live by the zero-waste philosophy and recycle everything,” said Mr. Klinkhamer.
If you have any questions regarding this project, the integrated system, or how it will all come together, please write to us, and we will provide the details.
