First Ammonia Shifts Electrolyzer Strategy for Texas Green Ammonia Plant

Electrolyzer Technology Pivot Risk

First Ammonia is preparing to shift away from solid oxide electrolysis (SOEC) for its 200MW Texas project, turning to pressurised alkaline or PEM systems following Topsoe’s exit.

CEO Joel Moser told H2 View the developer has launched a request for proposal process with shortlisted original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) as it eyes a final investment decision this year.

“We have a qualified shortlist from our own work since the [Topsoe] announcement,” he said. “We’re asking for responses on a short timetable.”
Outside of China, the Asia Pacific (APAC) region’s ambitious hydrogen pipeline is struggling to convert plans into projects, according to a new report by the Energy Industries Council (EIC).

Linde Engineering will lead the design of a planned large-scale Australian blue ammonia project, while also exploring options to extend into construction, ownership, and long-term operations.
