Ohio EPA Funds Cleanup of Former Crest Rubber Co. Site in Ravenna
The Ohio EPA is providing critical funding for the cleanup of the former Crest Rubber Co. site in Ravenna—advancing brownfield redevelopment, environmental restoration, and sustainable land reuse.
Ohio EPA Director Anne M. Vogel announced a $1.1 million grant from the Environmental Protection Remediation Fund to clear debris from the former Crest Rubber Co. site in Ravenna, Ohio, facilitating redevelopment.
The project, in partnership with the city of Ravenna and the Akron Regional Air Quality Management District, aims to remove 6,600 tons of construction and demolition debris, including nonfriable asbestos-containing material. Contractors will transport the waste to the Minerva Enterprises landfill in Waynesburg, Ohio.
Liberty Tire Recycling, with three facilities in Ohio, is among the companies assisting in the cleanup. “This project exemplifies our shared commitment to responsible environmental stewardship,” said Thomas Elder, Regional Vice President of Liberty Tire Recycling.
The initiative supports Gov. Mike DeWine’s goal of improving Ohio communities. Ravenna Mayor Frank Seman emphasized the significance of the Ohio EPA’s assistance in revitalizing small communities.
The cleanup is expected to take 60 days.
