How did the Philippines end up being the main polluter of the world's oceans?
Simply, the USA, Canada, Great Britain, Australia, and other countries dump their waste there legally and illegally.
For example, for many years Australia exported its garbage to China and thought nothing of it.
Beijing then closed the opportunity and Australia refocused on Southeast Asia.
In 2020, Australia passed a law banning the export of plastic waste.
After that, a scheme was devised to export waste from the country under the guise of PEF (Processed engineered fuel), when various garbage is shredded and then supposedly it can be burned instead of coal or gas.
This trash continues to be transported to Southeast Asia, and everything is environmentally friendly on paper.
