Connecticut is rolling out an extended producer responsibility (EPR) system that places end-of-life tyre management in the hands of tyre producers rather than consumers. The programme is the first of its kind at the state level in the United States, establishing a new benchmark for how scrap tyres are managed across the country.
Administration and Oversight
The scheme is administered by Connecticut Tire Stewardship LLC (CTS) under the oversight of the Connecticut Department of Energy and Environmental Protection (DEEP). Tyre manufacturers, brand owners, importers and, in some cases, retailers that supply new tyres into the state must join an approved stewardship organisation as a condition of selling into the Connecticut market.
