The DW Documentary ‘Global Renewables: Pioneering the Energy Transition’ delves into the global shift towards renewable energy. Highlighting cities like Lancaster and Wunsiedel, the film showcases innovative renewable energy solutions addressing urban energy demands.

We are facing the most significant upheaval since industrialization. To stop climate change, the energy system must be transformed worldwide. We need to know that very little time remains to do this. But there are places where this renewable future has already arrived.

The documentary explores what needs to happen in politics, policies, and society to implement what is technically possible regarding renewable energy. To do this, the film visits two completely different places: the US and Bavaria. These localities have two things in common: Both have completely converted their energy supply to renewables. As a result, both now have more money in their coffers than before.

The documentary provides a global overview of the solutions for a worldwide energy transition. It asks what challenges must be overcome in laboratories and power plants and among the movers and shakers who must drive the change today.
