Phi Suea House in Thailand turns sunshine into around-the-clock electricity and transport fuel. Alongside the residential energy supply, more than 25,000 kilometres of annual driving powered by surplus solar-derived hydrogen. Its commercial significance reaches beyond the home: renewable electricity, stored energy and vehicle fuel can be integrated at the place where they are needed.
For Klean, that connection opens a practical opportunity across industrial sites and logistics facilities. A warehouse roof can become an energy asset; an on-site hydrogen system can connect that asset with building demand and fleet operations. Phi Suea House provides an operating reference for the integration behind that opportunity.
The Challenge
Make energy independence work through everyday life
Developed around the vision of Sebastian-Justus Schmidt, Enapter’s co-founder, Phi Suea House brings homes and support buildings together in a self-sufficient energy system. CNX Construction was the building company and system integrator behind the residential project.
The challenge was to provide dependable electricity beyond daylight hours, through changing weather and the varying demands of an occupied property. Lights, refrigeration, appliances and other household loads need power when occupants use them. A solar installation therefore needed storage and controls that could match supply to demand throughout the day and night.
The transport application adds another useful destination for renewable energy. Once building demand and storage requirements are met, surplus generation can produce hydrogen for a vehicle. That creates a direct connection between a property’s energy system and the fuel otherwise purchased for travel.
The Solution
Combine solar power with complementary forms of storage
The residential microgrid integrates photovoltaic generation, batteries, AEM electrolyzers, hydrogen storage, fuel cells and energy management. Each component has a distinct job:
Enapter’s published residential reference lists 86 kWp of solar capacity and four AEM EL 2.1 electrolyzers. Its project account describes a monthly electricity demand of approximately 6 MWh, met with locally produced energy throughout the year. These figures describe the published residential configuration; they are separate from the later mobility application and larger commercial concepts.
The project also reduces the demand that its energy system must serve. Natural ventilation, energy-conscious building design, solar water heating and water collection complement the generation and storage equipment. Designing the loads and energy supply together is part of making autonomy practical.
Use surplus energy to fuel mobility
Surplus solar energy at Phi Suea House also supports on-site hydrogen refueling for Schmidt’s Toyota Mirai, enabling more than 25,000 kilometres of driving annually. The reported annual hydrogen surplus extends the system’s usefulness beyond the buildings into everyday transport.
For a property owner, the significance is tangible: energy generated on the property can serve both stationary and mobile demand. For a fleet operator, that raises a valuable development question—how much of an existing site’s energy resource could support vehicles returning to a common depot?
Connect the residential lesson to commercial delivery
Our partnership with H2 Core Systems provides a route to modular, containerized hydrogen production using Enapter’s AEM technology. H2 Core contributes integrated hydrogen systems; Enapter supplies the electrolyzer technology; we connect these capabilities with project development and industrial applications.
Containerization makes the approach relevant to sites where generation, storage and consumption must be assembled into a practical installation. The commercial work is to match the system with the customer’s electricity resource, operating pattern and hydrogen use. This is where our feasibility, due diligence and consulting services support investment decisions.

The Outcome
An operating reference with a wider commercial purpose
Phi Suea House demonstrates a working relationship between solar generation, batteries, hydrogen storage and real building demand. The project also helped shape Enapter’s development, turning experience with a residential energy system into part of the foundation for a modular electrolyzer business.
Our commercial interest is in applying that integration to larger energy users. Warehouses combine substantial roof space with concentrated electricity demand and recurring vehicle movements. Those characteristics create a logical setting in which to assess solar generation, hydrogen production and depot refueling together.
We identify CEVA Logistics, part of the CMA CGM Group, as a logistics partner in this wider opportunity. Its warehouse concept links rooftop solar, electrolyzers and refueling infrastructure with hydrogen fuel-cell trucks, including Toyota-based fuel-cell applications. We identify the potential to serve hundreds of trucks from a suitably sized hub in markets such as Australia, subject to the site’s energy supply, hydrogen output and fleet requirements.
The residential project demonstrates the operating principle; the fleet opportunity requires its own commercial design. Roof area, available renewable electricity, vehicle routes, daily fuel demand and refueling schedules determine the scale that a particular hub can support. Our value lies in connecting those decisions with technology providers and the logistics activity that creates demand for the hydrogen.
The opportunity is to turn facilities already involved in moving materials into locations that can also produce part of the energy used to move them. For our circular supply chains, this connects resource recovery with the energy demands of collection and distribution.
1. One energy system can serve buildings and transport. Phi Suea House combines autonomous residential supply with Klean-reported driving of more than 25,000 kilometres annually using surplus solar-derived hydrogen.
2. Integration is central to the value. Solar generation, batteries, electrolyzers, hydrogen storage and fuel cells perform complementary roles; the operating reference shows how those roles fit together.
3. We connect technology with commercial demand. Its H2 Core Systems relationship and logistics partnerships provide a basis for developing hydrogen applications around industrial sites, warehouses and fleets.
These are selected achievements and lessons. Further technical and commercial insights are available through an engagement with Klean.
WHAT DO THESE LESSONS MEAN FOR YOUR PROJECT?
If your site has renewable electricity potential, a need for resilient power or vehicles returning to a common base, we can assess how those requirements fit together. The starting point is the energy you can produce, the demand you need to serve and the value of integrating them on site.
For equipment developments, a paid Detailed Equipment Quotation (DEQ) establishes the proposed configuration and preliminary technical and commercial basis. A Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) develops the project case, followed by Front-End Engineering Design (FEED). Advisory and due diligence assignments can be scoped to the particular property, industrial operation or fleet.
