Why the Lowest Pyrolysis Plant Price Can Become the Highest Project Cost
Pyrolysis Project Cost
The lowest pyrolysis plant quotation does not always lead to the most economical project. A plant can look attractive on paper because of a low initial price, but the real picture only emerges after installation, commissioning and day-to-day operation begin.
The Project Starts Before the Reactor
In a waste tyre project the quality and size of the feedstock directly shape the process and the final product. A typical route runs from shredding through granulation, steel and fibre separation, and only then to pyrolysis. Buying a reactor without a clear feed-preparation strategy creates problems that are expensive to correct later.
A Continuous Plant Is More Than a Reactor
A continuous pyrolysis plant is an integrated system: feeding and material handling, reactor design and heating, gas circulation and vapour handling, condensation and oil recovery, non-condensable gas management, carbon discharge, automation and safety. The capacity printed on a quotation is only one part of the evaluation, and a plant’s real performance becomes clear in operation, not from its advertised capacity.
Oil Recovery and Product Quality
Condensation and oil recovery deserve as much attention as the reactor. Cooling capacity, condenser configuration and temperature control all influence recovery and stability. And producing pyrolysis oil is not the same as producing a market-ready product: separation, filtration, purification or distillation may be needed to meet a buyer’s specification.
Recovered Carbon Black: From Recovery to Value
Collecting recovered carbon black is only the beginning. Its commercial value depends on ash content, particle characteristics and consistency, and further grinding, milling, classification and testing may be required. Recovering a material is a process achievement; turning it into a consistent, marketable product is a business achievement.
Where Cutting Corners Costs Later
Machine design and fabrication, material selection, automation and monitoring, pollution control, safety systems and plant layout are not decorative additions to a quotation. Skipping them surfaces later as maintenance costs, downtime, higher energy use, inconsistent product quality, compliance gaps and lost market access.
Evaluate the Complete Project
Compare quotations against the same technical and commercial requirements: actual throughput, feed preparation, oil recovery, carbon quality, energy, automation, safety, environment, total CAPEX and realistic operating costs. The goal is not the cheapest plant; it is the plant best suited to the project.
