RED III Opens Premium Markets for Tire Pyrolysis Oil
Tire Pyrolysis Oil
The EU’s Renewable Energy Directive III and its recycled carbon fuel framework are recognizing the fossil fraction of end-of-life tires as a potential recycled carbon fuel, opening premium markets for tire pyrolysis oil.
RED III and Recycled Carbon Fuels
RED III sets binding renewable-energy targets for transport across the European Union, and its recycled carbon fuel provisions create a route for waste-derived materials to count toward those obligations. Under frameworks such as the UK RTFO, ISCC EU, RED III recycled carbon fuels, SAF pathways and refinery co-processing, well-documented tire pyrolysis oil can now reach higher-value markets and pricing.
What Changed for Tire Pyrolysis Oil
Until recently tire pyrolysis oil was often sold simply as an alternative fuel or refinery feedstock. The landscape has shifted: the fossil fraction of end-of-life tires is being recognized as a recycled carbon fuel feedstock, meaning even that share of the oil may become monetizable at a premium, provided the supporting evidence is strong.
Proof Now Determines Price
Premium tire pyrolysis oil is no longer sold only by the ton; it is sold by the strength of its proof. Certification, traceability, GHG performance, ISCC compliance and regulatory eligibility now separate producers who reach premium markets from those locked into lower-value fuel routes.
Klean’s Circular Supply
Klean Industries produces tire pyrolysis oil from end-of-life tires with the certification and traceability that premium fuel and petrochemical markets now require, alongside recovered carbon black and recovered steel.
