Plug Power Sells New York Hydrogen Site to Data-Centre Developer

Hydrogen Project Sale

Plug Power is selling its interest in a New York site originally planned for a clean hydrogen project, in a $132.5m deal with a data-centre developer.

The $132.5m Deal

Plug Power has entered a definitive agreement with Stream Data Centers to sell its Project Gateway site at the STAMP industrial park in New York, including land, associated infrastructure, and substation assets.

Plug Power’s Position

Plug Power is a US company active across the hydrogen value chain, supplying fuel-cell systems and electrolysers while developing its own green hydrogen production network. Fuel cells generate electricity from hydrogen for vehicles and stationary power, while electrolysers produce hydrogen from water and electricity. The company has pursued a broad build-out of hydrogen production facilities, and acted to offload this site after halting development of the clean hydrogen project that had been planned there.

Appeal to Data Centres

The STAMP site had secured substantial grid and substation capacity for hydrogen electrolysis, infrastructure now attractive to power-hungry data-centre developers whose demand for electricity has been rising rapidly alongside growth in cloud computing and artificial intelligence workloads.

Green Hydrogen From Waste

As developers reshuffle green hydrogen projects to match demand, Klean takes a feedstock-first route, generating hydrogen from waste through gasification and methane pyrolysis rather than relying on grid power. That positions the company to pair clean hydrogen supply with the waste streams it already handles.
