PET producer Novatex Ltd. has commissioned a Starlinger recoSTAR PET 215 art bottle-to-bottle recycling system at its facility near Lahore, Pakistan, capable of producing up to 3,000 kilograms of food-contact rPET per hour — more than 24,000 tonnes a year.

The rPET carries full food-contact certification and is used by major brands including PepsiCo and Coca-Cola to meet their circularity targets. Novatex sources post-consumer PET bottles from municipal kerbside collection across Pakistan, where an estimated 3.12 million tonnes of plastic waste is generated each year — yet only 4 to 9 percent is currently recycled.

Pakistan is moving toward a coordinated national framework, launching its National Plastic Action Partnership Roadmap with the UNDP and World Economic Forum, while food and beverage companies, recyclers and NGOs have formed the CoRE Alliance to push for a national Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) system. The shift is clear: recycled content is becoming a market requirement, not a niche option.
