Recovered Carbon Black Reaches Commercial Scale in Conveyor Belting
Recovered Carbon Black Belting
Recovered carbon black has moved beyond trial scale into commercial production, as ContiTech integrates Bolder Industries’ BolderBlack material into conveyor belt compounds across the Americas.
Commercial Scale In A Durable Application
ContiTech, the industrial group sector of Continental, has integrated BolderBlack — Bolder Industries’ proprietary recovered carbon black — into general-purpose conveyor belt cover compounds across its plants in the Americas. Over the past twelve months the material was validated through a joint qualification programme, in which Bolder and ContiTech teams ran production trials to confirm processing behaviour and material performance before committing to commercial use.
For an industry that has relied on petroleum-derived carbon black for more than a century with few alternatives at scale, the move is a concrete shift: a material recovered from end-of-life tyres is now specified into heavy-duty belting.
What BolderBlack Is
BolderBlack is produced from 100 percent post-consumer and post-industrial rubber waste through Bolder’s proprietary thermal conversion process. Compared with virgin carbon black production, it uses roughly 98 percent less water and generates approximately 86 percent fewer greenhouse gas emissions. The material is ISCC PLUS certified, providing chain-of-custody traceability and mass-balance verification, and is backed by independent lifecycle assessments confirming its emissions profile against virgin production.
Why This Signals A Maturing Market
Conveyor belting is a demanding, performance-critical application. Recovered carbon black that clears this bar has moved past proof-of-concept and into mainstream rubber manufacturing. Each new mastered application widens the market that rCB producers serve — and raises the value of plants that can deliver it to specification.
