Before Investing in Continuous Pyrolysis, Understand the Complete Project
Evaluating The Complete Pyrolysis Project
Many investors approach continuous pyrolysis with a simple set of assumptions: a batch plant can be upgraded to continuous, continuous means less pollution, 20 mm tire chips are easy to source near ports, and so many plants are going in that it must be profitable. The essential question is usually the one not being asked: is this a profitable project — or just a machine being sold?
A waste-tire circular-economy project cannot be planned around the pyrolysis reactor alone. Installing a shredder, producing 20 mm chips and feeding them into a continuous pyrolysis line is not automatically the right project model. And depending on imported waste-tire chips or crumb rubber requires careful examination of the applicable regulations, permissions, traceability and extended-producer-responsibility requirements before any capital is committed.
Raw Material Is the First Question
Before selecting a reactor, a developer must answer where the feedstock will come from, whether it is legally permissible for the proposed process, whether its origin and movement can be documented, how it fits the EPR and regulatory framework, and what happens when a compliance authority asks for traceability. These questions should be answered before purchasing any machinery.
A Different Project Model
Where a project is designed as waste tire to shredding to 2–5 mm fibre-free crumb rubber to continuous pyrolysis to oil purification and distillation to recovered carbon black and value addition, it must be evaluated as a complete circular-economy system — not simply as a continuous pyrolysis plant. For any project involving recovered carbon black or other value-added products, the applicable regulatory framework and permissions for the raw material and process must be examined, including whether import permission is actually available for that specific project.
The most important part is not the machine. It is the raw material plus the process plus compliance plus value addition plus the market. Read the NITI Aayog reports and the applicable regulatory framework on waste-tire circular economy before investing. That many operators are installing a given technology does not mean the same model is right for every investor.
Invest in the Project — Not Just the Machine
This is where Klean Industries starts. Our feasibility studies and due-diligence services evaluate the full feedstock, compliance, process and market case before a single reactor is ordered, so a project is built to be profitable — not merely bought to be installed.
