Amogy Targets Asia's Digital Sector for Ammonia-to-Hydrogen

Ammonia To Hydrogen

US-based start-up Amogy is eyeing deployment of its ammonia-to-hydrogen systems in digital industries across Asia through a new partnership.

The Partnership

Amogy has entered a new partnership with energy firm Hoku Infrastructure to pursue deployments of its technology across the region.

Digital Sector Focus

The collaboration targets digital industries in Asia, a sector the companies see as a fit for ammonia-to-hydrogen systems amid rising demand for reliable, lower-carbon power. Data centres and digital infrastructure require continuous, dependable electricity, and are increasingly seeking alternatives to grid power as their energy footprints grow.

Ammonia as a Hydrogen Carrier

Ammonia is one of the most widely produced industrial chemicals, used chiefly as a fertiliser feedstock. Because it can be stored and transported more readily than hydrogen gas, ammonia is increasingly studied as a carrier for the fuel, with cracking technology used to split it back into hydrogen and nitrogen at the point of use. That makes it an attractive option for supplying hydrogen where pipeline delivery is impractical.

Ammonia-to-Hydrogen Technology

Amogy’s systems convert ammonia to hydrogen, positioning the company to supply power applications across industrial and digital settings.

Hydrogen From Alternative Feedstocks

Ammonia cracking is one route to deliverable clean hydrogen, but not the only one. Klean complements carrier-based methods with direct hydrogen production from waste, using gasification and methane pyrolysis to turn end-of-life materials into fuel without leaning on ammonia carriage.
