Klean Industries Joins ASTM International as Voting Member | Standards Leadership

Klean Industries has officially become a voting member of ASTM International, furthering its commitment to developing and shaping global standards for advanced recycling technologies, pyrolysis, and circular economy solutions.

Vancouver, British Columbia – Klean Industries Inc. (“Klean”), a leading provider of advanced thermal conversion technologies and energy solutions, is pleased to announce that it is now a voting and contributing member of ASTM International (formerly known as the American Society for Testing and Materials).

ASTM standards are used worldwide to improve product quality, enhance safety, and facilitate trade. In the drive to develop internationally recognized standards for rubber recycling, Klean will contribute to various specialized committees, which include the D04 Committee for Road Paving and Materials, the D11 Committee for Rubber, the D24 Committee for Carbon Black, and the D36 Committee from Recovered Carbon Black.

Klean is a commercial provider of gasification and pyrolysis-based technologies for recovering valuable resources and clean energy from waste. What differentiates Klean from all others when processing tires is that it can convert the tire char into a useful end product with well-established end users in many product applications. This is accomplished using Klean’s advanced upgrading technology, which produces recovered carbon black (“rCB”). This key end product is upgraded through a patented multi-stage refining process known as the Klean Carbon CBk.

Klean’s membership is driven by the need to develop a unified classification system and processing standard that can be recognized internationally for the recovered resources produced from Klean’s operating facilities around the globe. One of the most significant barriers to developing a highly advanced tire recycling sector is the lack of a globally recognized standard and specification system for recycled rubber materials. Materials consumers are faced with many specifications from every producer in various markets. As producers are working towards their own best available output, often the result is that consumers of rubber materials are faced with specification and quality standard challenges, which are key issues that hold back the development of high-value rubber recycling.

“Having a standardized system across all markets would enable further transparency and streamline the sales, distribution, and new product application process for the materials we recycle and recover from waste. Klean is excited to be taking a lead role in shaping the future development of ASTM Tire Standards, which allows Klean to have input into establishing new and modified standards where we have an interest and where they may be applied to our commercial technology applications. This gives Klean a voice in defining the specification decisions, a voice equal to that of the largest players in the industry.”; said Jesse Klinkhamer, CEO of Klean Industries.

Klean Industries and ASTM International have joined forces to help establish globally recognized ASTM standards for recycled tire materials, from crumbs and powders to recovered Carbon Black (rCB) primary products of Klean businesses.

Shaping the Future of Clean Technology Standards
