Posadas Collects More Than 8,500 End of Life Tyres in Six Months
Waste Tyre Collection
The Municipality of Posadas, in northeast Argentina, collected 8,523 waste tyres between January and June 2026 through a vector-control programme.
Tyres as a Health Risk
The programme targets tyre shops and scrap yards, which can become breeding grounds for mosquitoes that carry diseases such as dengue. Officials emphasised its importance given the combination of rainfall and high temperatures that favour mosquito proliferation.
From Collection to Recycling
Collected tyres are transported to the Industrial Park, sorted, and sent to a specialised recycling plant where they are processed to recover steel and rubber. The scheme includes monthly monitoring of tyre shops and scrap yards, with collection and mosquito-control operations running year-round.
Steady, Repeated Throughput
On average the municipality collected around 330 waste tyres weekly over the past six months, covering 120 tyre shops across 12 municipalities, with a weekly collection schedule published on its website.
