Waste Polyethylene Recycling: Choosing the Right Machine for PE
Waste Polyethylene Machine
Recycling waste polyethylene is a question of matching the machine to the grade. Clean, single-polymer PE suits mechanical routes — shredding, washing, pelletising — but mixed, contaminated and film PE defeats them, and that is where a pyrolysis machine earns its place.
The mechanical route vendors sell is optimised for the clean fraction: it produces recycled pellets and runs most efficiently on a known, sorted input. The pyrolysis route accepts what mechanical rejects, converting mixed and contaminated polyethylene into fuel oil, gas and carbon black.
Two Machines, One Feedstock Strategy
The realistic answer is rarely one machine or the other, but both in sequence. Mechanical recycling handles the clean PE fraction; pyrolysis handles the mixed PE fraction that would otherwise be landfilled. Together they recover the full stream that a single route cannot.
Choosing the pyrolysis machine wisely then comes down to the same factors as any equipment decision: capacity matched to the feedstock volume, engineering quality, and a supplier with delivered references at operating scale rather than an aspirational brochure.
Match the Machine to the Material
The central mistake is specifying a machine before characterising the polyethylene. Know the grades, the contamination and the volume, and the right machine — mechanical, pyrolysis, or both — follows.
