ORC Heat Recovery from Cement Kilns

ORC Cement Kiln Heat

Cement production is among the most energy-intensive industries on earth, and its kilns reject enormous quantities of heat in the flue gas and in the clinker-cooling air. Installing an ORC system on those streams turns heat the plant was already venting into electricity, offsetting a meaningful share of a cement works’ large power demand.

How Cement Heat Is Recovered

A cement kiln releases heat at two main points: the hot flue gas leaving the kiln and preheater, and the hot air from the clinker cooler. Heat exchangers capture that stream and feed it to an ORC, whose working fluid vaporises and drives a turbine to generate power. The recovered electricity flows straight back into the plant’s own consumption.

Why Cement Is a Strong ORC Fit

The heat is steady, high-volume and would otherwise be thrown away, and the plant runs continuously, so the ORC operates at a stable duty match the entire time. For a sector under pressure to cut both energy cost and emissions, recovering kiln waste heat is one of the most reliable and best-understood efficiency projects available, with a direct and predictable payback.
