China’s Longxing Technology Group has begun supplying sustainable carbon black made from waste-tire pyrolysis oil to a European tire manufacturer, marking a significant step for circular tire materials.

A Milestone Supply Agreement

Longxing, one of China’s largest carbon black producers — top three domestically and within the global top ten — has commenced deliveries of roughly 10,000 tons of sustainable carbon black to an undisclosed European tire maker after passing that customer’s approval process. The Hebei-based company frames the agreement as an entry point into Europe’s sustainable tire supply chain and says it is already working with several other European tire manufacturers on product development, sampling, testing, and certification.

Tire Pyrolysis Oil as a Feedstock

What sets this material apart is its feedstock. Longxing produces its sustainable carbon black from cracking oil recovered from end-of-life tires — the same tire pyrolysis oil stream that is central to waste-to-value processing. Through advanced downstream processing, the company reports performance characteristics comparable to conventional furnace carbon black, the fossil-based reinforcing agent used in virtually every tire.

Sustainable vs Recovered Carbon Black

The distinction is worth keeping clear. Recovered carbon black (rCB) is reclaimed directly from scrap tires and can carry lower purity and reduced reinforcing performance. Longxing’s route instead uses tire-derived oil as a feedstock to produce a higher-specification material. Both paths, however, turn waste tires into a circular alternative to fossil feedstocks — and that is the underlying demand signal.

A Broader Market Signal

The deal reflects what European tire manufacturers are doing at scale: accelerating sustainable and recycled material substitution to meet carbon-reduction and circular-economy targets. For the tire recycling and pyrolysis sector, rising demand for sustainable carbon black strengthens the case for building feedstock and processing capacity, and for the feasibility work that precedes any new plant.
