Boiler for Sawmill & Wood Waste
Wood Waste Boiler
A sawmill produces more than sawn timber; it produces a steady stream of bark, sawdust, offcuts and trim that is a fuel hiding in plain sight. A wood waste boiler burns that residue to generate heat and power for the mill, turning a disposal cost into the energy the operation already needs.
How a Sawmill Powers Itself
The mill’s wood residue is fed to a biomass boiler, which raises steam or hot water for the kilns that dry lumber, for process heating and, in a combined heat and power configuration, for electricity. Because the fuel is a by-product of the milling itself, the mill’s energy cost is effectively tied to its own waste stream.
Why Sawmills Lead on Biomass
Sawmills have an unusually good biomass case: the fuel arrives at the gate as a by-product, the heat demand for drying is constant and well matched, and the boiler displaces bought energy for both. It is one of the cleanest examples of a facility running on its own residue, and why wood-products plants remain among the earliest and best biomass adopters.
