Boiler for Carbon-Neutral Process Heat

Carbon Neutral Process Heat

Process heat is one of the hardest parts of industry to decarbonise, since manufacturing still depends on high-temperature heat that is difficult to electrify. Carbon-neutral process heat is the answer, and the boiler is how it is delivered: burning biomass or recovered fuel, or capturing waste heat, to supply that heat without net carbon emissions.

How Heat Goes Carbon-Neutral

The route depends on the site’s fuel and heat demand. A biomass boiler burns renewable wood or agricultural residue whose carbon was recently fixed by growth. A waste-heat boiler captures heat the process already released. A recovered-fuel boiler burns the non-recyclable fraction of waste that would otherwise be landfilled. In each case, the heat carries little or no net fossil carbon.

Why It Matters for Industry

For a plant under decarbonisation pressure, dropping a fossil-fired boiler for a renewable or recovered-heat system removes a large share of its scope 1 emissions in one step, without waiting for a breakthrough technology. Combined with heat recovery and efficiency, it is the practical, available path to carbon-neutral process heat today.
