Birla Carbon Raises Specialty Carbon Black Prices in Asia as Supply Tightens

Carbon Black Price

Birla Carbon has announced a price increase of up to 15 percent for its Specialty Materials products in Asia, effective 1 October 2026, as feedstock costs continue to climb.

The adjustment applies to Birla Carbon’s Specialty Materials portfolio across the Asian market. The company attributed the increase to significant and sustained rises in feedstock costs, driven in part by geopolitical instability and continuing disruptions in global feedstock markets.

Birla Carbon said it has worked to mitigate the impact through operational efficiencies, supply chain optimisation and disciplined cost management, but that the magnitude and duration of the escalation made a price adjustment necessary. The specific figures will be communicated directly to customers by the company’s sales teams.

Specialty carbon blacks are engineered for demanding performance applications across coatings, plastics and industrial rubber, and they are refined through careful feedstock selection. For that reason, upward pressure on feedstock markets translates directly into list-price movement for the grades buyers rely on.

Rising carbon black prices across Asia reinforce the commercial case for recovered carbon black, which is produced from end-of-life tires through pyrolysis rather than fossil-derived feedstock. As virgin grade costs climb, specification-grade rCB becomes a more attractive partial substitute for compounders looking to manage input cost.

For manufacturers seeking to diversify away from volatile fossil feedstock pricing, recovered carbon black offers a locally sourced alternative with a smaller environmental footprint. Each virgin-market increase narrows the price gap, strengthening the substitution economics of circular material.
