BEKON Provides Energy Supply for Innovative Data Centre

Waste To Energy

A new data centre near Trilj in Croatia will be powered by energy generated from the digestion of biowaste, while also supplying heat to the local district-heating network. Project developer INOVAPRO d.o.o. is using biogas technology from BEKON GmbH, and the official opening of the biogas plant has completed the first phase of the “Green AI” project.

The plant, built by BEKON as general contractor, uses the batch fermentation principle to produce biogas under anaerobic conditions. Fermentation takes place in tunnels, with offset feeding and emptying ensuring continuous energy production. The facility is designed to process around 13,000 tonnes of bio-waste per year, collected separately in the region — including restaurant waste from nearby Split that previously had to be trucked five hours to Zagreb.

The project pairs a data-centre sector hungry for reliable, low-carbon power with an anaerobic-digestion route that turns an urban waste stream into dispatchable energy. It is a clear example of how biowaste is being reframed from a disposal cost into a feedstock for continuous, on-site energy.

Power Your Facility With Its Own Waste

The Trilj project turns 13,000 tonnes of regional biowaste a year into continuous power and district heat — the same value proposition that makes waste-to-energy attractive to energy-intensive operators such as data centres.

Klean Industries has delivered biomethane, biomass and waste-to-energy facilities across multiple countries, supported by turn-key EPC delivery and feasibility studies that size the feedstock, output and economics before construction begins.
