Feedstock Supply

Feedstock is the foundation of any waste-to-value plant, and shredder residue has a feedstock advantage most other streams lack: it is produced continuously by an industry that already exists, in quantities that track vehicle and appliance retirement with no interruption.

The reference plant draws its residue from five shredder plants — processing cars and brown and white goods — plus two non-ferrous separation facilities. That network is the supply model in miniature: stable relationships with shredder operators who need an outlet for their residue as much as the processor needs the feed.

Mutual Interest Makes It Durable

The partnership works because it is bidirectional. The shredder operators get a guaranteed, compliant outlet for a material they would otherwise pay to landfill, and the processor gets a guaranteed, continuous feedstock. Each side has a hard economic reason to stay in the arrangement.

That mutual dependence is what makes feedstock contracts in this sector more durable than in markets where input must be chased. The residue has to go somewhere, and once a processor is embedded, it becomes the somewhere.
