ORC for Carbon Intensity Reduction
ORC Carbon Intensity
Carbon intensity measures the emissions behind each unit of energy a plant produces or consumes, and ORC power recovery attacks it directly. Because the recovered electricity comes from heat that already exists in the process, not from additional fuel, every unit of ORC output is effectively emission-free, lowering the carbon intensity of the whole facility.
How Recovery Cuts Carbon
The logic is simple: the heat was going to be rejected regardless, so the power recovered from it carries no incremental fuel or emissions. Rather than buying grid electricity with its own carbon footprint, the plant generates low-carbon power from its own waste heat, reducing both its emissions and its external energy draw in one step.
Why It Fits Decarbonisation Plans
For energy-intensive facilities under pressure to cut scope 1 and scope 2 emissions, ORC recovery delivers a measurable, verifiable reduction without changing the core process or disrupting production. It is among the most cost-effective levers a plant has, turning a compliance cost and an efficiency opportunity into the same project.
