Joint Venture Plans Up to Ten Tire Pyrolysis Plants Across Europe
Tire Pyrolysis Plants
Pyrum Innovations AG and Unitank Holding have formed a joint venture to build five to ten tire pyrolysis plants for recycling end-of-life tyres across Europe.
A New Joint Venture
The shareholder agreement establishes UniPyrum, based in Hamburg, with an independent management team. Pyrum holds a 49 percent stake while Unitank Group holds 51 percent. The venture is intended to drive a rapid, targeted rollout of production sites in Germany and the wider European market.
Capacity and Modular Design
Each site will begin with at least three thermolysis reactors and deliver an annual recycling capacity of at least 22,000 tonnes of end-of-life tyres. Because Pyrum’s technology is modular, capacity can be expanded site by site in line with demand. The process recovers thermolysis oil and recovered carbon black for use in new products.
First Location Identified
Preparatory work has included defining target regions for the first three plants, along with pre-engineering and a business plan. Unitank’s Emleben site in Thuringia has been identified as a possible first location, with approval procedures expected to begin shortly.

Powering Europe’s Circular Tire Economy
Modular tire pyrolysis plants turn a waste stream into recovered carbon black and pyrolysis oil that manufacturers can put back into new products.
Klean Industries designs and delivers end-to-end tire pyrolysis plants, engineering every stage from feedstock handling to recovered product output.
