Large Tyre Fire Sweeps Ranskill Yard
Ranskill Tyre Fire
Nottinghamshire firefighters have been fighting a large outbreak at Ranskill, Nottinghamshire, home of one of the UK’s oldest tyre recycling operations.
The fire is believed to have taken place at Boynton Brothers’ yard at Ranskill near Retford.
A large number of tyres have been burning over the weekend of the 7th/8th August with 14 fire engines and an Aerial Ladder Platform (ALP) are at the scene. Crews are being assisted by Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service.
Large plumes of smoke were seen rising from the site, and images from the fire show earthmover tyres burning.
Reports from Nottinghamshire Fire Brigade suggest that they believe that the fire was started deliberately through the use of fireworks on site. A group of people were seen setting off fireworks near the scene at the outbreak of the fire.
Boynton Brothers have long been involved in tyre recycling, and were treating agricultural tyres and earthmover tyres long before Landfill was outlawed. At the time of Tyre and Rubber Recycling’s visit the core business was punching rubber rolling weights for use on trawler nets. The company had also started processing tyres for chip and crumb.
At the time of going to press, understandably, nobody was available from Boyntons to comment.
