Boiler for Pyrolysis & Gasification Heat: Recovering Process Heat as Steam

Pyrolysis Gasification Boiler

Pyrolysis and gasification both run hot and release a continuous stream of process heat, in the hot product gas, in the cooling train and in the combustion of non-condensable gases. A boiler placed on those streams recovers that heat as steam or hot water, converting what would otherwise be wasted into useful energy for the plant.

Where the Heat Is Recovered

A pyrolysis or gasification plant gives up heat at several points. The hot syngas or vapour leaving the reactor must be cooled before cleaning or condensation, and that cooling load is exactly where a waste heat boiler sits, transferring the gas’s heat into water to raise steam. The non-condensable gas, if burned, adds a further combustion heat source for a boiler to capture.

Why It Improves the Plant

Recovering this heat closes part of the plant’s energy loop. The recovered steam can drive a turbine for power, supply process heating, or both, reducing the external fuel and electricity the facility must buy and lifting the overall efficiency of what is fundamentally an energy-recovery process.
