Detailed Feasibility Studies, Plant Design & Engineering
Klean Industries creates clean industries. A warehouse can become the producer of the fuel its own trucks consume. A farming cooperative can produce nitrogen fertilizer from sunlight. An industrial site can store solar-derived ammonia and turn it directly into power after the sun has set — without a separate hydrogen-cracking stage.
The defining connection is between those parts. Solar electricity drives electrolytic hydrogen production. AmmPower’s containerized process combines that hydrogen with nitrogen separated from air to produce ammonia. EVS rotary engines then convert the ammonia directly into useful energy. Stored ammonia carries the day’s solar energy into the hours and seasons when the sun is not enough, opening a route from renewable generation to fertilizer, fuel and dependable local power.
Energy supply and demand rarely arrive together. Solar generation peaks during daylight; trucks need fuel before departure; farms require fertilizer seasonally; construction equipment must run through a full shift. Connecting those demands requires decisions about storage, conversion, utilization and reserve capacity.
Every conversion also has a cost. Turning electricity into hydrogen, then ammonia, then electricity again consumes energy and adds equipment. A viable project needs an end use whose value justifies that route. Direct electricity use, batteries, hydrogen and ammonia therefore belong in the same comparison, with each assigned the practical job it does best.
Connect complementary capabilities around the customer’s requirement
Our offering starts with the complete operating requirement: what the customer needs to power, move, produce and sell. We then connect the technologies around that requirement, including the interfaces that determine whether the overall project works.
| Participant | Contribution |
|---|---|
| Earendel Solar | Solar-generation collaboration that supplies the renewable foundation for buildings, electrolysis and ammonia production. |
| ARGO-Anleg | Hydrogen storage, dispensing and integration expertise connecting production with handling, transport and vehicle refueling. |
| AmmPower | Containerized ammonia-production technology converting hydrogen and nitrogen into fertilizer or stored energy. |
| EVS | Rotary multifuel engines with direct ammonia capability, converting stored ammonia into energy without a separate cracker. |
| Klean Industries | Technology development, equipment integration and project development, aligning utilities, storage, logistics and customer markets within one engineered project. |
These roles describe complementary development relationships and applications. Each deployment has its own agreed supply and delivery scope.
The integrated pathway is solar electricity → hydrogen → ammonia → direct energy. AmmPower’s Independent Ammonia Making Machine (IAMM) combines electrolytic hydrogen and air-separated nitrogen through ammonia synthesis, with an announced design capacity of up to 4 metric tonnes of ammonia per day — a stated equipment capacity subject to the selected configuration and operating basis. Solar-produced ammonia then offers two distinct destinations: a nitrogen input for agriculture and a fuel for EVS direct energy conversion.
Direct ammonia removes the cracking stage. EVS’s direct ammonia capability is the decisive connection. Solar-derived ammonia can feed the engine without first passing through a separate cracking system to produce hydrogen. That removes a conversion stage, its equipment and its associated operating requirements from the power system, connecting daytime renewable production with stored fuel for later generation. Amogy’s catalytic cracking illustrates the alternative route for the reader, but with EVS our equipment takes the shorter path by using ammonia directly.
Useful heat can also be recovered where a selected engine installation and a nearby heat demand support combined heat and power. The entire system — batteries buffering electrical demand, hydrogen supporting selected mobility and power uses, and ammonia storage holding product for fertilizer or generation — must carry the operation through overnight production, several days of poor sunlight, a fleet departure peak and the fertilizer delivery season.
A development offering that turns resources into clean industries
At a logistics depot, rooftop generation can support warehouse electricity and hydrogen for returning fuel cell trucks. At a farm or cooperative, solar-powered ammonia production can supply nitrogen fertilizer locally, with a share allocated to EVS power generation. At an industrial site or remote community, stored ammonia can support dispatchable power, gaining further value where useful heat can be recovered.
Our completed solar-hydrogen logistics feasibility work demonstrates the project-definition approach; our technology relationships expand the configurations we can develop. The integrated opportunity remains in development — each deployment needs its own performance evidence and commercial basis, including electricity and fuel production, delivery and use, and evaluation of nitrogen oxides, ammonia slip and nitrous oxide where ammonia is combusted in air.
Klean’s distinctive contribution is engineering those connections around a viable industrial use — turning renewable energy, storage and equipment relationships into a defined, investable clean industry.
1. Invest in the connections that create customers.
A warehouse roof becomes more valuable when solar generation can serve the building and a returning hydrogen fleet. Align production, storage and dispatch with recurring demand before fixing equipment capacity.
2. Capture the value of direct ammonia use.
EVS removes the separate cracking stage between ammonia storage and the engine. Assess the resulting equipment, integration and maintenance savings against the system’s fuel consumption, emissions controls and delivered power cost.
3. Engineer independence across the operating year.
Full off-grid energy and fertilizer production depend on low-solar periods, reserves and seasonal demand. Model these conditions alongside product allocation and useful heat so reliability and commercial return share one design basis.
These takeaways highlight selected lessons from this case study, not an exhaustive account. Klean brings deeper technical expertise and commercial insight to each project through tailored engagements.
Your warehouse, farm or industrial operation may already contain the ingredients for a clean industry: solar space, recurring energy demand, vehicle movements and a local fertilizer market. Klean connects those resources with the equipment needed to turn the opportunity into a defined project.
The first decision is the complete system boundary: which electricity, transport-fuel and fertilizer needs it will serve, how independent it must be, and which customers support its production. We bring technology development, equipment integration and project engineering to those decisions.
For a suitable new project, a paid Detailed Equipment Quotation (DEQ) establishes the preliminary configuration and commercial basis. A defined Detailed Feasibility Study (DFS) assesses viability and the energy, storage and market requirements, followed by FEED to develop the selected configuration for delivery.

ABOUT THE INFORMATION PRESENTED
This case study presents selected information authorised for public disclosure. Client identities, operating practices, process details and proprietary know-how may remain confidential. This is a development case spanning complementary technologies and partnerships, not a record of a single commissioned integrated facility. An enquiry, NDA or paid engagement does not automatically grant access to restricted information, client facilities or site visits; any disclosure or access requires the relevant permissions and a separately agreed scope. Ammonia combustion requires evaluation of nitrogen oxides, ammonia slip and nitrous oxide, and solar-electrolysis and syngas-derived hydrogen require separate production and lifecycle emissions assessment.
We support our client’s through our quoting and project development by providing a wealth of information and specifications about Klean Industries systems and technologies.
