Pyrum Targets Expansion with World’s Largest Recovered Carbon Black Mill
Recovered Carbon Black
Production of recovered carbon black grinding unit scheduled for third quarter of 2025
Dillingen, Germany—Waste tire pyrolysis firm Pyrum Innovations AG has assembled the “world’s largest” grinding mill for recovered carbon black (rCB).
CEO Pascal Klein said it would “significantly expand” capacity at Pyrum’s grinding and pelletizing location in Germany’s Saar region and drive earnings.
“Expansion will enable us to substantially increase sales of our rCB and thus take a further step towards a sustainable and future-oriented circular economy,” he claimed.
Developed by Hosokawa, the new mill boasts an input material capacity of 1,650 kg/hr, with an output material rating of 1,350 kg/hr.
It will enable Pyrum to process the carbon black produced by its two new reactors, TAD 2 and TAD 3, installed last year as part of the site’s expansion.
The grinding plant will start operating in April this year, and cabling work to supply power is underway.
Assembly of the pelletiser plant will begin within weeks of the delivery of the final components, with combined production scheduled for the third quarter of 2025.
The firm has been pioneering thermolysis technology for recycling tires and plastics with ‘minimal’ emissions since 2008.
The process recovers rCB and tire process oil (TPO), which is supplied to partners including BASF, Continental, and Schwalbe to manufacture new products.
Pyrum has run a continuous plant operation at its Dillingen headquarters since 2020.
