Recovered Carbon Black: Pyrum Secures Continental Approval for ThermoTireBlack
Recovered Carbon Black
Pyrum Innovations AG has secured unlimited delivery approval from Continental for its ThermoTireBlack recovered carbon black, a milestone that strengthens the commercial case for tyre-to-tyre recycling.
Pyrum Innovations AG has received unlimited delivery approval from Continental for its ThermoTireBlack (TTB) recovered carbon black, produced at the new milling and pelletising plant at its Dillingen/Saar headquarters. With this approval, Continental has formally commissioned all facilities from the plant expansion at Pyrum’s main site. In April 2026 the milling and pelletising line moved into regular production at a capacity of 750 kg/h, backed by a short-term capability analysis confirming consistent process performance.
Recovered Carbon Black as a Tyre-to-Tyre Feedstock
Recovered carbon black is the solid, carbon-rich output of end-of-life tyre pyrolysis, and clearance from a global tyre manufacturer marks a meaningful step toward closing the tyre loop. When a producer like Continental approves a recovered carbon black grade for delivery, it signals the material meets the consistency and quality a rubber compounder requires — the practical hurdle that has historically slowed adoption. Learn more about the fundamentals in what is recovered carbon black.
Why Offtake Approval Matters for the Sector
Offtake validation from a major manufacturer de-risks the entire pyrolysis value chain. It demonstrates that recovered carbon black can substitute for virgin furnace carbon black in real rubber compounds, which in turn strengthens the investment case for tire pyrolysis plants and the feasibility studies that underpin them. For a sector built on the promise of circular materials, a named buyer is the single strongest signal that the economics work beyond the pilot stage.
A Maturing Tyre Recycling Market
The tyre recycling sector continues to consolidate around closed-loop outcomes: recovered carbon black for new tyres and rubber goods, pyrolysis oil as a drop-in industrial feedstock, and recovered steel. As more approvals of this kind land, the path from end-of-life tyres to saleable commodities grows more bankable for developers, offtakers, and recovered carbon black project sponsors alike, and the appetite for new pyrolysis capacity continues to widen.

Turn Tyre Waste Into Approved Recovered Carbon Black
Offtake approval from a global tyre manufacturer shows recovered carbon black has reached commercial maturity, and the value chain is consolidating around closed-loop outcomes. Developers and offtakers that build quality and consistency into their recovered carbon black strategy will be positioned to capture the premium as the tyre-to-tyre market scales.
