Utility Global Raises $100M to Scale Gas-to-Hydrogen Systems
Hydrogen Production Systems
Utility Global has raised $100m in new funding to accelerate deployment of its electricity-free gas-to-hydrogen production systems.
The Investment
Utility Global announced it has raised $100m to support deployments of its electricity-free gas-to-hydrogen production systems.
An Electricity-Free Route
The company’s systems convert gas to hydrogen without relying on an external source of electricity, an approach distinct from electrolysis-based production, which splits water using electric power. Conventional hydrogen is most often produced today through steam methane reforming of natural gas, a process widely used to supply feedstock for refining and for ammonia and methanol production.
Hydrogen Production Systems in Industry
Hydrogen serves as a key industrial gas, used as a chemical feedstock and increasingly viewed as a route to decarbonise hard-to-abate sectors. Most of the world’s hydrogen is consumed in refining and in the production of ammonia and methanol, making low-cost, scalable production methods a central concern for industrial users. Technologies that reduce the electricity demands of production are attracting investor interest as industry weighs the costs of scaling cleaner supply.
Deployment Focus
The fresh capital is earmarked to scale the rollout of these hydrogen production systems and support their deployment at scale.
Methane Pyrolysis to Hydrogen
Utility Global’s electricity-free route echoes a path Klean already pursues in its hydrogen production systems: methane pyrolysis, which splits methane into hydrogen and solid carbon without an external power source. Klean integrates that route with the waste and gas streams it handles to deliver clean hydrogen.
