Think outside the square: Tyre Stewardship Australia funding next big idea in off-the-road tire recovery

Off Road Tire Recycling

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) – the end-of-life tire management authority designing programs and regulations for tire recycling and material recovery in the country – is inviting innovators to help improve the recovery of large off-the-road (OTR) tires once they reach end of life.

Around 120,000 tons of end-of-life OTR tires are sent to landfill every year.

These tires are used in some of Australia’s most important industries: mining, agriculture, construction, manufacturing and aviation. At end of life, less than 15% of these tires are recovered and then recycled for use as a new resource, the remainder are stockpiled, buried onsite or sent to landfill.

Currently, limited recycling capabilities in Australia make it difficult to find meaningful recovery and recycling solutions for OTR tires. This is due to known barriers, including onsite disposal, their location in regional and remote areas and the challenges associated with their size.

TSA is looking for different thinking to solve an old problem and for Australia’s brightest minds and enterprises to help develop solutions that will increase tire resource recovery in infrastructure, mining, agricultural and construction applications.

This project received grant funding from the Australian Government.

Tyre Stewardship Australia (TSA) invites you to submit your ideas, pitch and business plan today.

Recover Every Off-Road Tyre

Less than 15% of Australia’s 120,000 annual tonnes of off-the-road tyres are currently recovered, the rest are buried onsite or landfilled.

Klean Industries’ pyrolysis technology processes even the largest mining, agriculture and construction tyres into valuable oil, rCB and steel.

Why Choose Klean Industries’ OTR Tyre Pyrolysis?

✅ Processes the oversized mining, agriculture and construction tyres conventional recyclers can’t handle
✅ Converts waste OTR tyres into pyrolysis oil, recovered carbon black and steel
✅ Eliminates onsite burial and stockpiling with a bankable recovery route
✅ Feasibility studies and turn-key EPC for regional OTR recovery hubs
