Mars Mineral Grows Europe rCB Processing With 12th Pin Mixer

rCB Processing

Mars Mineral has shipped its twelfth pin mixer for recovered carbon black processing to the European Union, expanding its footprint in a region where end-of-life tyre volumes and circular-material demand are both climbing.

Europe’s rCB Processing Momentum

The latest unit, Model 12D54Li-SS, supports Europe’s growing tyre recycling sector and brings the company’s total global installations to 24. Recovered carbon black, derived from the pyrolysis of end-of-life tyres, is gaining traction as manufacturers and compounders look for sustainable alternatives to virgin carbon black. With roughly 3.5 million tonnes of end-of-life tyres generated across Europe each year, investment in recycling infrastructure and downstream processing technology continues to rise. Much of that volume flows through pyrolysis, which recovers oil, gas, steel, and carbon black from the rubber in a closed loop.

What a Pin Mixer Does for rCB

A pin mixer is an agglomeration machine that takes the fine, powdery recovered carbon black produced by a tire pyrolysis plant and densifies it into uniform, free-flowing pellets. A high-speed rotor fitted with pins works the powder against a bed of material, adding just enough moisture to bind the fines together without turning them to paste. The process reduces airborne dust, improves material handling and metering, and makes the product easier to store, transport, and blend. For operators scaling up a recovered carbon black line, this downstream step is often the difference between a raw powder that is difficult to handle and a consistent, saleable material.

Why Pelletized rCB Matters Downstream

Pellets integrate more consistently into rubber compounding and other formulations than loose powder, giving compounders a material that behaves more like conventional grades. That predictability is what allows recovered carbon black to displace virgin material in tyres, rubber goods, plastics, and coatings. Pelletized product also flows cleanly through bulk-handling and dosing equipment, cutting waste and improving batch-to-batch consistency on the compounding line. As circular-material commitments tighten across manufacturing, the equipment that turns pyrolysis output into a spec-grade product becomes a central part of the value chain.

Scaling the rCB Value Chain

For pyrolysis operators, the economics of recovered carbon black depend on producing a consistent, marketable grade, not just a black powder. That means pairing a pyrolysis system with the right downstream processing train: milling, pelletizing, and quality control. As European producers expand capacity and more compounders qualify rCB in their formulations, the demand for reliable pelletizing equipment keeps growing. Klean Industries supports this full pathway, from pyrolysis through recovered carbon black plant design and specification.
