Vanguard Renewables and Generate Upcycle Unite to Create North America's Largest Food Waste-to-RNG Platform
Food Waste RNG
Vanguard Renewables has signed an agreement to acquire Generate Upcycle’s North American operations, merging two industry leaders to create the leading food waste-to-renewable natural gas platform. Upon closing, the combined company will operate an expanded infrastructure network across the U.S. and Canada, strengthening its ability to meet growing demand for organic waste diversion and low-carbon energy.
Generate Upcycle’s anaerobic digestion and advanced depackaging facilities across upstate New York and Ontario, Canada, are expected to join Vanguard Renewables’ portfolio, bringing the combined platform to 19 facilities. The transaction also establishes Vanguard Renewables’ presence in Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations market and creates additional recovery pathways capable of serving larger volumes of organic material across North America.
The deal is expected to nearly double Vanguard Renewables’ operating capacity, adding approximately 565,000 tons of food waste processing and 1.1 Bcf of renewable natural gas production annually. The U.S. alone generates more than 70 million tons of food waste each year, and recovering more of that material reduces methane emissions from landfill disposal while producing renewable natural gas valued across regulated, voluntary, and transportation markets.
