Rotary Kiln Drying Applications
Rotary Kiln Drying
Before many materials can be processed, combusted or shipped, they must be dried, and a rotating heated drum is one of the most effective ways to do it. Rotary kiln drying circulates material through a flow of hot gas, evaporating moisture evenly and continuously, reducing water content to the level a downstream process or transport step needs.
What Gets Dried
Rotary drying serves a long list of applications:
- Sewage sludge and industrial sludges, reduced in volume before disposal or energy recovery.
- Biomass such as wood chips, raising its fuel value by removing water.
- Minerals and ores, dried before further processing or handling.
- Food and agricultural products, where moisture control preserves quality.
Why Tumbling Works
The drum’s rotation constantly lifts and redistributes the material, so every particle is exposed to the drying gas rather than the outside staying dry while the core stays wet. That even exposure, plus the ability to process large, continuous volumes, is why rotary drying is the default for everything from municipal sludge to industrial minerals.
