ORC for Refinery & Flare Gas
Flare Gas ORC
Refineries and processing plants generate continuous waste heat, and sometimes vent or flare low-value gas, losing energy to the sky. An ORC system recovers that energy, converting waste heat and flare gas streams into electric power that offsets the facility’s own consumption.
Where the Energy Is
The heat sits in furnace and reactor exhaust, in cooling trains and in process streams across a refinery, while associated gas that cannot be economically collected is often flared. Where recovery is practical, that heat and gas can be captured and used to run an ORC cycle, generating power instead of wasting the energy.
Why It Fits Energy-Intensive Sites
Refineries run around the clock and consume enormous power, so recovered electricity offsets a large, constant energy bill. Capturing waste heat and gas as power improves both the economics and the emissions footprint of the site, and because the heat is already there, the recovery is a pure gain on an existing cost.
