How Waste-to-Energy Improves Resource and Energy Efficiency


CEWEP's fact-finding visit to Flanders shows how integrated waste management, recycling, composting, waste-to-energy, and ash treatment can improve resource and energy efficiency.

How waste-to-energy improves resource and energy efficiency becomes clearer when recycling, composting, thermal recovery, and ash treatment are viewed as one integrated waste-management system.

To examine this question, and to present an integrated approach to waste management, the Confederation of European Waste-to-Energy Plants (CEWEP) organised a fact-finding visit to Indaver N.V.’s waste management facilities in Flanders.

The trip included visits to a recycling plant in Willebroek, a green waste composting plant, a waste-to-energy plant, and an ash treatment facility.
