CM Shredders delivers its new tire recycling system to SPSA in Virginia

Tire Recycling Equipment

CM Shredders – one of the leading tire recycling equipment manufacturers worldwide – announced recently the installation of a new state-of-the-art, high-capacity automated tire shredding system for its customerSoutheastern Public Service Authority(SPSA) in Suffolk, Virginia, United States.

According to CM’s press release, the new system, which can process end-of-life car, truck and light OTR tires, features CMs brand newHT-250 Hybrid Primary Shredderintegrated with a high-volume automatic infeed system. According to CM, the system’s capacity reached 30 tons per hour during runoff tests.

An array of cameras and advanced sensors are custom programmed to communicate with both the shredder and the conveyance systems allowing the machine to self-meter at high volumes. The operators can view the live camera feeds remotely, allowing them to focus on other tasks as the machine keeps an optimal speed and capacity on its own, saidMario Vazquez, CM Shredders Sales Marketing Director.

With high capacities and automation come greater chances of a foreign object such as rocks and rims making it through initial screening protocols, added Vazquez. For added protection, the CM system has an extreme impact protection system. However, it is not accomplished with an old-style mechanical clutch. The company says it is achieved with CM Shredders advanced electrical controls system. This system provides a torque limiting function that can instantaneously detect and respond to an extreme impact and is much more efficient than an old-style mechanical system. Therefore, no clutch or fan cooler is required, nor do they have to be maintained, reducing maintenance costs and downtime.

Ive dealt with machinery all my life, and this is the most impressive piece of equipment Ive ever been a part of purchasing, said Dennis Bagley, who serves as SPSAs Deputy Executive Director.
