Biomass Dryer + Boiler Integration
Biomass Dryer Boiler
Wet biomass burns poorly, so it is often dried before combustion, and that drying needs heat. Integrating a biomass dryer with the boiler closes the loop: the boiler supplies the heat that dries its own fuel, using energy the plant already produces to improve the fuel it burns, and lifting the efficiency of both.
How the Integration Works
The boiler’s steam or hot water, and sometimes its flue gas, is routed to the dryer to evaporate moisture from incoming biomass before it is fed to the boiler. Drying the fuel raises its heating value, so the same boiler produces the same output from a lower-quality, higher-moisture fuel, while the drying heat comes from the plant’s own energy loop.
Why It Improves the Plant
Drying ahead of the boiler lets a plant burn fuel that would otherwise be unusable, widening its feed range while improving combustion and cutting fuel use per unit of output. The integration turns what would be two separate systems, a dryer buying its heat and a boiler wasting surplus, into one efficient, self-supporting process.
