India Pushes Recovered Carbon Black Applications in Tires

Recovered Carbon Black Applications

Rathi Group has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Indian Tyre Technical Advisory Committee to strengthen the use of recovered carbon black in tire manufacturing.

A Structured Evaluation Framework

The agreement establishes a framework to evaluate, standardise and enhance recovered carbon black so that its properties perform consistently in tire applications. The effort focuses on responsible adoption tied to mechanical performance, durability and safety.

Technical Characterisation

The collaboration draws on ITTAC’s expertise to support detailed material characterisation, benchmarking against virgin carbon black, formulation optimisation and validation protocols. It also addresses known challenges such as variability in particle structure, ash content, surface chemistry and reinforcement efficiency.

Industry-Wide Coordination

The initiative is facilitated by the Automotive Tyre Manufacturers’ Association, bringing together tire makers, technical specialists and research institutions. The goal is a data-driven path to accelerating circular material adoption while upholding strict tire performance standards as part of a tyre-to-tyre circularity model.
