President Obama to Run Wild With Bear Grylls

President Obama has withstood six years in the White House and a tumultuous political era, but how would he fare in the Alaska wilderness?

Television audiences will find out later this year when Mr. Obama appears on an episode of “Running Wild With Bear Grylls,” the NBC survival series. NBC said in a news release on Monday that Mr. Obama, who is traveling to Alaska this week, will meet with Mr. Grylls, the outdoor adventurer and TV host, “to observe the effects of climate change on the area.” The statement said that the two men “will then come together in the Alaskan Wilderness,” adding, “President Obama will become the first U.S. president to receive a crash course in survival techniques from Bear Grylls.”

The shoot will take place on Tuesday on Exit Glacier in Alaska’s Kenai Mountains, according to the White House.

“Running Wild,” which is now in its second season on NBC, typically pairs Mr. Grylls with celebrities and entertainment personalities like Channing Tatum, Ben Stiller and Zac Efron. Throughout his presidency, Mr. Obama has appeared in unexpected and off-beat places to promote his agenda, including the WTF podcast hosted by the comedian Marc Maron, and “Between Two Ferns,” the talk-show parody starring the comic actor Zach Galifianakis.
