CPUC Issues Draft Strategic Plan for Energy Efficiency

The California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) recently issued
for comment its Draft Strategic Plan for Energy Efficiency, which
continues the state’s efforts to ensure efficient use of energy
resources through 2020 and beyond.

In October 2007, the CPUC took steps to make energy efficiency a way
of life in California by focusing on achieving long-term energy
savings by changing the way Californians use energy. The CPUC
recognized that these very ambitious goals require long-term
strategic planning.

On June 2, 2008, per CPUC order, Southern California Edison Company,
Pacific Gas and Electric Company, San Diego Gas and Electric
Company, and Southern California Gas Company jointly proposed a
California Energy Efficiency Strategic Plan (CEESP). The CPUC’s
Draft Strategic Plan issued today draws from the CEESP.

The CPUC plans to vote on the plan in September.
